My family is anything but up for a good adventure. So when my sister first got married and we decided to go to Richmond to go sledding, I never thought we would do it the way we did. Now it is my favorite way to go sledding.
First what you do is you get all dressed up warm and head to Richmond. Then you put everything in the back of a truck and drive up a snowy dirt road. When you get to the top you get out, grab and sled and head down the road. The key: be ready to roll and get out of the way AND hold on because you will get going FAST!!
Brian and I joined up with my family on New Year's Eve to do just this type of sledding. Brian had never been before and he didn't know what we were getting into either.
I ended up going down the hill with my niece mostly which was smart because we didn't get hurt but had a lot of fun going down. The first trip down we spun around several times, ran through a snowbank on the side of the road, and fell off the sled twice. The second trip down we ran over a few of my cousins....and I mean we literally ran over them. I thought we had moved out of the way and the next thing I know our sled was on top of hers and on top of her. The third time down we fell off the sled a lot because a part of it kept bending up and would make it super hard to steer when we got going really fast. I then decided to go down with Brian......great idea but we picked the wrong sled. We were told that the black tubs were the best sleds. They were big enough for two people and they went fast. Our problem, they were big and went fast but you couldn't steer them. Here we were going down a hill super fast and hit some ice just right that we started heading toward a ditch. We tried to adjust, finally adjusted but had over corrected and flew off the other side of the road and hit a tree. Luckily Brian is an amazing quick thinking guy and got us turned sideways so we were right up next to the tree and not hitting it head on. I did still hit the side of my head on the tree and got a good headache. It bothered me much more later that night when we got together with Brian's family for dinner, cake and ice cream though.

(I hope to steal some pictures of us actually sledding from my sister. My cousin took some with her camera when she decided to take a break.)
After that hit we only went down one more time but Brian and I drove the truck back down....we were kind of done with the sleds for the time being.
We then had lunch, headed home, Brian took a nap, then he headed to a basketball game and I headed to Wellsville. Once he was done he came and joined us. We brought in the New Year with a bang (after I slipped in a little nap....I was exhausted).

| Happy New Year!! By the way we look ridiculous and tired because we were. We had fun hats, blowers, and an exhausted from having too much fun all day body. |
Now we are in the New Year and trying to figure out what is going to happen to us in 2013. 2012 changed our lives with getting into a graduate program, having it paid for, me getting a job, and not moving like we were planning. 2013 will bring an internship for HR, Brian graduating from HR, and who knows what else. We are hoping it is a year full of great things that are going to help us meet our goals.
