Memorial Day

For Memorial Day weekend I got to spend a lot of time with our families. It begin on Sunday with a BBQ at my grandpa's house and a visit to my grandma's new headstone. It was fun to get together with my extended family. There are a lot of us and it is a lot to get caught up on.

Then on Monday I got up early and met up with Brian's niece and nephews at the Brigham Cemetery to put out flags on the veterans graves. I did this growing up and loved it but haven't been able to do it for years. It was fun to go and do it again. Then I went up to Logan to the annual picnic with Brian's family. It was such a nice day that I got to sit, relax, and soak up the sun. I even got a little sunburn on my legs...the start of my summer tan hopefully. After getting the sun, I ran home to change then out to Wellsville to catch a ride to see the rest of Brian's family in Brigham. We had a fun little BBQ and went to visit some graves at the cemetery.  (We both have a lot of family in the Brigham cemetery but this was the first time seeing all of Brian's family.)

 As we were getting ready to leave the cemetery Greg came as the ice cream man and brought us all some yummy ice cream sandwiches. Overall it was a long day and a little hard toward the end to be apart from Brian...but we made it two weeks and only had a week left to getting together.

Our "New" Place

Amazingly Brian and I have lived in the same apartment since we got married.....yeah almost FOUR years!!! We just haven't found anything else that we feel is worth the amount they are asking compared to what we are getting with what we pay. I know not everyone shares our views but with us staying here we have paid off two cars, two small student loans, made it through schooling basically debt free, and Brian is now getting a dual masters and we are still getting out of debt/are debt free.
However, since we have lived here so long we have outlasted more then our fair share. We have went through two on site managers and now a whole new management company. A company just recently purchased our apartment complex, so we are under complete new management.
They told us that they were thinking of doing some upgrades, so this past week we got a new floor, updated cabinets, new paint on the walls, and resurfaced counters. We are still waiting to get a new TV (yeah we will get a TV for upstairs), new light fixtures, and the unknown problem that came with the new floor, new baseboards. Here is what our apartment looks like now:

Colorado Home

For awhile there we were really worried about where we were going to live for our time in Colorado. We spent a weekend there and came up with more questions then answers except that we really liked the little town of Empire. While we were in Empire we had the guy at the little shop we stopped at, tell us that we should check out Georgetown. So on a whim we stopped and drove through the town on our way back to our hotel. We thought the town was pretty quaint and that it could be a possibility, if we could find a place. A few days later we found a place online. Not only is it close to the mine, it is two bedrooms and fully furnished. (ya for not sleeping on an air mattress all summer!) Everything came together for it pretty quickly and Brian will be getting the keys soon. As soon as I get out there I will take some pictures and post them, supposedly we are right on the edge of the lake just outside Georgetown. I am excited for the adventure to begin and am counting down the days until school is out. Only 13 more days to go!!!

Blaze Win!!

We are now about halfway into the Blaze season and sadly they had yet to win their first home game. They were doing really good on the road and getting killed at home, normally in the last quarter. It was pretty frustrating. This past Saturday Brian and I were sure we were going to miss the game. USU softball decided to try to let their seniors play in the last game and changed the time from 12 pm to 4 pm. Yeah a four hour change, sad thing was only one senior showed up to play......
Anyway, Brian went to the game knowing that the night before the game had gone on for close to three hours, so we were pretty sure the game would last close to two. But we were proved wrong. It lasted an hour and twenty minutes. So Brian figured we had time to go to the game. I hurried to get cleaned up and get things together and we got on the road. We made it close to half time due to traffic, me getting ready, and having a new parking arrangement. But we sure are glad we went because they finally won!!! It was a great game too. The action was back and forth with new things happening every time. But the best bonus was the refs didn't keep their whistle in their mouths the whole game (it was shown that our games were taking almost an hour more time then planned due to refs making so many calls and most were not even that big of calls).
It was great to celebrate a win!! Let's keep it up Blaze!!

Unbelievable

It is truly unbelievable that Brian and I went and saw Iron Man 3 on opening night. We don't do that normally but we made an exception so that Brian could go and hang out with some of his classmates before they all left town for their internships this summer. We both really enjoyed the movie and had a surprise visit from Iron Man himself.

Gifts

I spent Saturday busily getting some gifts together so I wouldn't be in a scramble trying to finish things up at the last minute. (I must of had a little divine intervention since on Monday we got a phone call from our managers and they have been remodeling our apartment ever since....let's just say I will be lucky to get the gifts all wrapped up at this point.)
I almost finished up the mother's day gifts, they just needed one more thing added. But I got these all made up for the teachers I work with for Teacher Appreciation Week. I work with some amazing people and am lucky to have met and become friends with some of them.

I think the gifts turned out cute. You can decide for yourself but they were quick and simple. I don't have pictures of the Mother's Day gifts yet and don't want to spoil the surprise, so I will post a picture of them later.

Oops!

So about a month or so ago I was getting ready to leave for school. I was running a little late and had a meeting I had to get to, I opened the door to see quite a bit of snow outside (I should have realized this wasn't a good sign for my morning.) I hurried outside and tried to quickly open the car door when the handle came off in my hand. As you can imagine the morning didn't go so good from there on out. I got lucky and we were able to make things work while we got a door handle ordered and then waited until someone could help us fix it. We finally had time and help this past Saturday, so while Brian got ready for softball I headed over to meet up with my brother. Between the two of us it took right around an hour and we got the door handle changed out. It seems to be working good (it occasionally doesn't want to shut the first time or unlock but I think our handle was broken from the inside before). We are now ready to take that car with us to Colorado.
