So we left Seattle earlier than originally planned since we discovered our Six Flag tickets we had purchased were only for the weekends....we wanted to make it to use them.
As we left Seattle in the rain we hardly saw the sun again. It rained the whole drive. We drove right through the night from Seattle all the way through Oregon on the interstate. Then dropped down onto Highway 101 or Highway 1 to drive along the coast.
It was SO pretty. Have you ever been on the Redwood Highway and seen these amazing trees?? I highly recommend it, it is probably even prettier in the sunlight. (Remember we only saw it all through a very steady drizzle.)
As we were driving along we began to stop to take pictures. The more we drove the prettier it got. Although Six Flags was our original destination things changed and we soon were just enjoying the drive and the view it had to offer.
As we were driving out of no where appeared Paul and Babe. They were huge. If you click on the picture above you will be able to see Brian standing between the two of them. It was amazing how big they were.
If you look closely at these they tell you the height and everything else. After stopping for a quick picture we continued on. We were all pretty tired during the first part of our drive since it was like seven and eight in the morning and we had driven through the night taking turns sleeping in intervals.
Here are some redwoods that were on the side of the road where we switched drivers. Believe me they are huge and really pretty.
I took over driving and everyone else slept so the above picture is the only attempt I got of a really pretty clear water lake that was on the one side of the road while just across the road to the other side was the ocean. It was breath taking and I was the only person in the car to witness it. Sad huh?
We then got to a few towns and stopped for breakfast at the creepiest McDonald's ever. It even had a sign saying you had 30 minutes to eat your food and leave or you were loitering. Brian and I thought of taking a picture of the sign but the creep-o's in there made us just want to eat quickly and leave.
After breakfast we all woke up more. Brian began driving from there again. As we were winding through the trees out of no where came this shop called The Legend of Big Foot. They had some of the coolest things carved out of these trees. Since so many cars were pulled over we decided to join right in.
We were glad we did too. It was a much needed break and gave us some time to enjoy some fun pictures. Although the rain did pick up here and we all got really wet. However, while browsing the gift shop area we saw postcards of the tree you can drive through and learned where it was.
We were really happy we hadn't passed it earlier. Brian also found a postcard with a lot of other landmarks on it. So as we were driving we kept finding them all.
It was pouring at the time we found the one-log house. Brian jumped out for a picture while the rest of us stayed in the warm car.
However by the time we found the tree house it had slowed to a drizzle again and I wanted to get in the picture and see the place up close.
It was really cool how the tree was seriously a house. Too bad it was now closed and no longer available for tours. :( That just would have been really cool to see.
After the tree house we found the Chandelier Tree that you can drive through. We were all pretty excited to go through it. Since Spencer had already done it, he volunteered to do the pictures of us going through it.
The trees in this part of the forest were amazing and huge. We thought we had seen some big trees when we first entered the Redwood Forest.....we were wrong.
Also I will admit the trees can look fake at times....but when you touch them you are sure it is real.
Driving through the tree was really fun and it was something you definitely can't do every day.
We got all of us out of the windows. Can you see us? Our rental had a sunroof which would have been used a lot more if the rain had ever stopped long enough to use it for a full drive.
As we were getting ready to leave we saw this tree that had fallen and been hollowed out some. It was perfect to take some quick pictures in.
Once we left the redwoods some more we continued on to our hotel. In the afternoon everyone fell asleep again as I once more began driving.
The sun popped out for the drive (so I of course opened that wonderful sun roof) and we were in wine country. This is gorgeous. The green was so vibrant with the fresh rain on them. Also once again a breathtaking site that only I saw.
This time though I think I was able to better capture the effect some. They still aren't the best pictures....but take into account I was driving and the only one awake, again.
We got to our hotel a little early and since we didn't stay in normal hotels and had a kitchen...we went grocery shopping. We got some breakfast and some stuff for some dinners for the different places we were staying.
That night for dinner though we decided to go out since we were starving (we had the weirdest schedule for eating during the whole trip). We went to a place called Johnny Garlic's. (Have you seen him on the food network?) It was pretty good. We then went to our hotel and enjoyed the night relaxing, watching basketball, and taking some time in the hot tub. It was perfect after such a long drive to just relax.
