16th Street and the Rockies

One great thing that comes with Brian's internship is that he only works four days. After four days of ten hours we get three day weekends together. So this week we decided to head into Denver. We originally planned on going to the Botanic Gardens but spent some time relaxing at home and didn't leave ourselves with quite enough time. So we instead explored 16th street. We left our apartment and drove to Golden, parked and got on the light rail to ride into Denver. Once we got to Denver, we jumped on the free Mall ride (it is a bus that goes up and down 16th street and you can get on and off at several stops). We enjoyed walking around for awhile and then decided it was time to eat. We stopped at one place and got a small something to eat while looking up a local place. We found Steuben's, and figured out where it was with an app on my phone and took off walking to it. It had a huge variety of food. We got meatloaf, masked potatoes, and a side of mac and cheese. It was really good. After eating here, we took pictures of a few places on the way back (mostly of the amazing church buildings), stopped and got some treats for the game since they let you bring in outside food and drinks as long as they are not opened, and jumped back on the free bus to ride up closer to the stadium. Once we got closer we walked to the stadium and found the line for the rock pile seats. These seats sell the tickets for $4 two and a half hours before the game. We got super close seats in the rock pile and got to enjoy the entertainment of those that got kicked out for bringing in their own liquor (one of the few things not allowed in). After we brought our tickets we enjoyed watching batting practice and came pretty close to getting a ball. The Rockies ended up winning 10-9 although they were ahead super early in the game and then let the Padras come back.

16th street had pianos you could play all over the place, too bad neither of us remember how to play.

Our stamps by Bob so we could get our great Rock Pile seats

Us before the game started with our beads.
Funny story, Brian loved talking to people on this trip. While we were waiting in line for our tickets he started up a conversation with two people in line with us. We talked about lots of different things including where to eat and they actually recommended where we ate lunch. Then when we were at the game one of them actually got the seats right next to us. This is funny and strange because we brought our tickets at opposite windows and they give the tickets to the windows not by order of buying tickets.

The last experience we had was on the light rail back to Golden. We were on the train just relaxing since we were both feeling tired from the long day. Then on got a lady that was loud and willing to talk. Brian got her talking after a homeless guy handed her some cigarettes (like a whole pack, Brian is pretty sure there was some cash in it too but who knows). This was the lady was the essence of crazy people we have met so far. She started off about how strangers are better then her own family, then told us she was from Oregon, she loves to smoke weed and will until the day she dies because it has no bad effects like cigarettes, that if you smoke weed while driving you are a better driver because you are so high you don't want to be pulled over, how she use to be a stripper and broke people's hands when they touched and weren't suppose to, now she is a massage therapist for little money or trade (aka weed), she wants to go back to school to become a guidance counselor, she could never see herself as a mom because she would probably beat her kids, and so much more. I think we made the other girl sitting next to us very uncomfortable until she got to her stop but this lady was crazy and entertaining. Brian and I were laughing really hard about some of the stuff she told us when we were walking to our car.
Also we had to stop and buy a few things on our way home and we couldn't forget the donut because Friday was National Donut Day!!

We had a great day exploring and were exhausted when we got home, we basically crashed so we would be ready for our next adventure.
